It takes a team…
About the Ride
MS Bike is an experience-driven event that brings the community together in exciting ways to help create a world free of MS. Achieving a world free of MS takes more than one person, and by participating in MS Bike our cyclists join thousands of participants across Canada all working toward this singular goal.
How Your Donation Helps
Money Raised Goes to…
People living with MS across Canada are at the heart of everything we do. The current health crisis has impacted all Canadians, and the need for information, resources and support programs for people affected by MS is as urgent and critical as ever. The money you raise ensures that people affected by MS receive quality access and support that they need in whichever community they live in. It is our priority to ensure we support programs and services that people can access across the country – regardless of where they live. Some examples of this programming include virtual wellness, 1:1 Peer Support, and our MS Knowledge Network.
You can also check out the MS Society 2020 Impact Report here.
It takes a Village….
Anyone can ride in these events across Canada. There is a minimum fundraising amount you have to meet to be eligible but that’s easy compared to what those who deal with MS have to endure.
Through the Years…
First Year 1991
Barry’s first year and start of his MS Bike journey. He raised $ 750.00 in the first year.
In his words… “I hadn’t ridden a bicycle since the 70’s. Didn’t know how sore you could get from riding that distance.”
2003
The actual ride became easier once I was told about bike shorts and started training before the ride. My sister Lynne was not getting any better, and this motivated me more every year.
This Year
Last year I raised 52,056.00, and finally, let everyone know that I am close to the goal of 1 million dollars. I had kept this mostly to myself as extra motivation.

FAQ
Why do you ride for MS?
I originally rode for my sister, Lynne. When she passed away in 2018, I was asked if I was going to stop. If I stop M.S. wins. I will never let M.S. win. I ride now for the 90,000 plus Canadians and their families who deal with this disease every day.
How long have you been doing the MS Bike ride ?
I have been riding and supporting MSBike.ca since 1991. It’s hard to believe that we’re close to hitting the $ 1 million raised.
How to you prepare for the ride ?
The first year was tough. Really tough and painful. Since then I have learned about proper equipment and ensure I train well prior to the ride.
On a side note, I have ridden with torn muscles, and ligament tears, and even ridden 3 1/2 months after a total knee replacement. MS doesn’t stop and neither will I.
What is the largest donation you have received ?
The largest donation received was 2200.00 from the Tuesday Night Men’s over 35 Slo Pitch League.
Can I join you in the ride ?
Yes!! The more people helping and raising funds for research, the closer we come to finding relief and hopefully a cure for MS.

Can we get ahold of Barry for more info/an interview?
Please do. More awareness can lead to more help and that’s exactly the point. 🙂
